Savara
The Savara script (also called Sorang Sompeng) was created in the 1930s by Mangei Gomango for writing the Sora language, a South Munda language spoken by the Sora (Savara) people of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh in India. Gomango, a member of the Sora community, devised the script following what he described as a divine revelation. The script is written from left to right and is an abugida: consonants carry an inherent /a/ vowel and other vowels are marked with diacritics. The script is actively used among Sora communities for literacy, religious texts, and correspondence, and it has been taught in some schools in Odisha. Sorang Sompeng was added to Unicode in version 6.1 (2012) and represents one of the indigenous scripts of India created by community members in the twentieth century.
