Saint Lucian Creole French New Testament (ACFWBT)

Overview

The Saint Lucian Creole French New Testament, titled Tèstèman Nèf-la: Épi an Posyòn an Liv Samz-la ("The New Testament with a Portion of Psalms"), was published in 1999 by the Bible Society of the East Caribbean, with text copyrighted by Wycliffe Bible Translators. [1] The translation was led by David B. Frank, a field linguist with SIL International who served as project manager and head of the translation team in Saint Lucia from 1984 to 2000. [2] Frank's work on the project addressed significant lexical and cultural challenges inherent in translating Scripture into a French-based Creole language, including the rendering of abstract theological terms into natural Creole structures. [3] This was the first publication of the New Testament in Saint Lucian Creole French (known locally as Kwéyòl), making the Scriptures accessible in the everyday language of the majority of Saint Lucians.
