Adele 1996 Edition (ADETBL)

Overview

The Adele 1996 Edition is the New Testament in the Adele language (also known as Gidire by its speakers), translated for the Adele-speaking communities of Togo and Ghana. [1] Adele belongs to the Kwa branch of the Niger-Congo language family, specifically classified under the Potou-Tano, Basila-Adele grouping. [1] The New Testament translation was completed between 1996 and 2001, representing the first Scripture translation in this language. [2] In Ghana, the Ghana Institute of Linguistics, Literacy and Bible Translation (GILLBT) — originally established in 1962 as SIL International's first work in Africa — developed the Adele writing system and led the translation effort. [3] Most Adele speakers also speak Ewe, and the community spans the Centrale region and Sotouboua prefecture of Togo as well as parts of central eastern Ghana. [1]
