Adhola 2002 Edition (ADHBSU)
Overview
The Adhola 2002 Edition is a New Testament in the Dhopadhola language, published by the Bible Society of Uganda. The Adhola people, also known as the Jopadhola, are a Nilotic Luo ethnic group residing primarily in Tororo District of eastern Uganda. [1] According to oral tradition, their ancestor Adhola settled in the area now called Padhola ("place of Adhola") during the 16th-century Luo migration, choosing to remain in eastern Uganda while other Luo groups continued southward toward Kenya and Tanzania. [1] The Jopadhola maintained their language and cultural identity despite being surrounded by Bantu-speaking and Ateker communities. [1] This translation by the Bible Society of Uganda made the New Testament available in Dhopadhola for the first time. [2] A full Dhopadhola Bible translation was subsequently completed by the Bible Society of Uganda with support from the American Bible Society. [2]
