Adioukrou 1998 Edition (ADJWBT)

Overview

The Adioukrou 1998 Edition is a New Testament translation published by Wycliffe Bible Translators, with the local publishing partner listed as AITB, Abidjan. [1] Adioukrou (also written Adjukru, Adyukru, or Ajukru) is a Kwa language of uncertain sub-classification spoken by approximately 140,000 people in the Grands-Ponts region of Côte d'Ivoire, centered on the Dabou area of the Lagunes District. [2] The vernacular title of the translation is Amani Owr. [1] The Adjoukrou people are historically farmers and fishermen who maintain elaborate age-group social hierarchies; the community is predominantly Christian. [2] SIL translation consultant Harriet S. Hill conducted Bible translation comprehension research among the Adioukrou and subsequently drew on her experience to author The Bible at Cultural Crossroads: From Translation to Communication (2006), which examines mismatches between first-century Jewish cultural categories and Adioukrou worldview and proposes methods for improving comprehension through contextual footnotes.
