Batak Angkola 1991 Bible (AKBLAI)

Overview

The Batak Angkola 1991 Bible is a Scripture publication in the Batak Angkola language, published by the Indonesian Bible Society (Lembaga Alkitab Indonesia, LAI). [1] The Batak Angkola are a sub-group of the Batak peoples of North Sumatra, Indonesia, numbering approximately 1.27 million people and residing primarily in the South Tapanuli regency and surrounding areas. [2] Bible translation work in Batak Angkola has a long history: portions of Scripture were first published in 1872-1889, followed by a New Testament between 1879 and 1902, with the complete Bible arriving in 1991. [2] Protestant Christianity was introduced to the Angkola region by Dutch missionaries and the German Rheinische Mission Gesellschaft (Rhenish Missionary Society) in the 1850s and 1860s. [3] While the majority of the Batak Angkola are Muslim, approximately 10% are Christian. [2]
