Alawa Song Buk (ALHEBL)

Overview

The Alawa Song Buk is a collection of hymns and songs with biblical content in the Alawa language, originally published in 1991 by Wycliffe Bible Translators. The compiler was Margaret Sharpe of the Aboriginal and Multicultural Studies Department, University of New England, Armidale. [1] Alawa (also called Galawa) is a critically endangered language of the Northern Territory, Australia, with approximately 4 speakers remaining as of the 2016 Census, though revival efforts continue at Minyeri School southeast of Katherine. [1] The Song Buk remains popular and efforts to document additional Alawa songs continue in Kriol-speaking regions.
