Albanian Bible (ALSSHQ)

Overview

The Holy Bible in Albanian, published in 1994. This edition is based on the work of Dom Simon Filipaj, a Catholic priest from Montenegro who collaborated with the Belgrade office of the United Bible Societies to produce a Bible translation in standard Albanian. [1] The New Testament portion was first published in 1977, representing the first New Testament in modern standard Albanian. [1] The complete Bible including the deuterocanonical books was re-produced by the publishing house Drita in 1994. [1] This translation is used primarily by Albanian-speaking Christian communities and has been made available in the public domain.

Translation History

Dom Simon Filipaj worked with the United Bible Societies' Belgrade office during the Yugoslav era to produce the Albanian-language scriptures. His New Testament appeared in 1977, and the full Bible with Apocrypha was published in 1994. [1] The translation stands alongside other modern Albanian versions, including the Interconfessional Bible Society of Albania's translation and revisions of Kristoforidhi's earlier 19th-century work.
