Bible in Alyawarr (ALYNSW)

Overview

A partial Bible in the Alyawarr language of Central Australia, containing portions of both Old and New Testaments. Alyawarr is an Arandic language of the Pama-Nyungan family, spoken in the Sandover and Tennant Creek areas of the Northern Territory, northeast of Alice Springs. [1] The translation was carried out by members of the Australian Society for Indigenous Languages (AuSIL) and staff of the Finke River Mission of the Lutheran Church of Australia, in consultation with Alyawarr people. [2] The Alyawarr MiniBible, titled Angka Mwerr-angker ("Good News"), was published as an Alyawarr-English diglot edition by Bible Society Australia and launched at Irrultja outstation on Palm Sunday 2010. [2] Translator David Blackman has been working with Alyawarr communities on Bible translation since 1992. [3]
