Alur 1970 Bible Revised Orthography (ALZBSU)

Overview

The New Testament in the Alur language (also known as Lur), published in 1970 by the Bible Society of Uganda under the copyright of United Bible Societies. This edition uses a revised orthography, indicating an update to the writing system used for earlier Alur-language publications. [1] Alur is a Western Nilotic language of the Luo group, closely related to Acholi, Adhola, and other Luo languages. [2] The Alur people trace their origins to the Luo migration from Bahr el Ghazal in South Sudan during the sixteenth century, and they inhabit the West Nile region of northwestern Uganda as well as the Ituri province of northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. [2][3] Christianity was introduced to the Alur through missionary activity, and this New Testament represents one of the key scripture resources for the Alur-speaking Christian community. [3]
