Overview
The New Testament in the Alamblak language of Papua New Guinea, with copyright held by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. as of 2003 and 2004, under the vernacular title Bro Nkifrarhu Mrokfot. [1] Alamblak (ISO 639-3: amp) is the easternmost of the Sepik Hill languages, spoken in the Angoram District of East Sepik Province, with two major dialects: Karawari (nine villages on the Middle Karawari and Wagupmeri rivers) and Kuvenmas (four villages near Kuvanmas Lake), which demonstrate extensive differences in phonology, grammar, and lexicon. [2] [4] Total speaker population is estimated at approximately 1,530–3,100 people. [2] Alamblak is a polysynthetic, agglutinative language with subject-object-verb word order. [4] The language was documented in a comprehensive 1984 linguistic grammar by Les Bruce of the Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL International), published by the Australian National University as part of the Pacific Linguistics C series, which provided foundational linguistic analysis supporting the translation effort. [3] [4] Earlier Scripture portions were produced between 1974 and 1998, with the completed New Testament finalized in the 2003–2004 period; the translation was distributed with print editions published by Wycliffe Bible Translators.
