Ivbie North-Okpela-Arhe New Testament (ATGWYI)

Overview

The Ivbie North-Okpela-Arhe New Testament (titled Ebe-No-Pfuasẹ Ishobọ Onogbọ) was published in 2012 by Wycliffe Bible Translators in partnership with the Abakaliki Literacy and Translation Trust, bringing the first New Testament to speakers of this Edoid language in Edo State, Nigeria. [1] The language is a dialect cluster covering three closely related varieties — Ivbie North, Okpela (Okpella), and Arhe (Ate) — spoken by the Okpella, Ate, and Okpekpe peoples in the Etsako and Akoko-Edo Local Government Areas of Edo State. [2] According to Joshua Project, Bible portions in the language became available during 2009–2012, preceding the completed New Testament. [3] A print-on-demand edition of the New Testament has been made available through the Digital Bible Society in collaboration with Wycliffe Bible Translators, the Bible League of Canada, and Open Doors International.
