Awadhi Easy-to-Read Version (AWAERV)

Overview

The Awadhi Easy-to-Read Version (ERV) is a full Bible translation in Awadhi, an Eastern Hindi language of the Indo-Aryan branch spoken primarily in the Awadh region of Uttar Pradesh, India, including cities such as Lucknow, Faizabad, and Kanpur. [1] The Easy-to-Read Version was developed by the World Bible Translation Center (WBTC), which merged with Bible League International. [2] The ERV uses a dynamic equivalence ("thought-for-thought") translation approach, employing simplified vocabulary and short sentences to make Scripture accessible to new readers and those with limited literacy. [2] The Awadhi ERV was copyrighted in 2005 by Bible League International. Awadhi has significant literary heritage as the language of Tulsidas's Ramcharitmanas (1575), one of the most important works in any modern Indo-Aryan language. [1]
