Overview

Genesis, Ruth, and Jonah in the Awara Language of Papua New Guinea, published in 2011 under the vernacular title Awara Baibel by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. [1] Awara (ISO 639-3: awx) is a Trans-New Guinea language of the Finisterre branch, spoken by approximately 1,900 people in 14 villages in the Markham district of Morobe Province, south of the Finisterre mountain range; it is closely related to Wantoat. [2] The phonology and verbal system of Awara were documented by Edward and Susan Quigley in a Pacific Linguistics monograph, providing the linguistic foundation for translation work in this language. [3]
