Balinese Today's Balinese Version, 1990 (BANIBS)
Overview
Today's Balinese Version (Cakepan Suci) is a New Testament in the Balinese language, published by the Indonesian Bible Society (Lembaga Alkitab Indonesia, LAI) in 1990. [1] Balinese is an Austronesian language spoken by approximately 3.95 million people, primarily on the island of Bali and parts of eastern Java. [2] Bible translation into Balinese has roots in the 19th century, when the Dutch linguist Herman Neubronner van der Tuuk conducted extensive work on Balinese language and texts during his final decades on Bali, under the auspices of the Dutch Bible Society (Nederlandsch Bijbelgenootschap). [3] The LAI, formally established in 1954, continued regional-language translation work and produced this modern Balinese edition for contemporary readers. [1]
