Bariai Bible (BCHWBT)

Overview

The Bariai Bible, comprising Genesis, Exodus, and the New Testament, was completed in 2012 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. after twenty years of translation work by missionary translators Steve and Carol Jean Gallagher, who began their work among the Bariai people in 1992. [1][3] Bariai is spoken in West New Britain Province, Papua New Guinea, and a Bariai dictionary has been compiled by SIL as part of broader linguistic documentation efforts. [2] In addition to the printed text, Steve and Carol Jean Gallagher recorded the Bariai Scriptures in audio form, distributing them on solar-powered audio players; the recordings had a significant impact on Bariai communities, with local churches incorporating the vernacular Bible into worship services and elementary schools using it for mother-tongue literacy instruction. [1] The vernacular title Deo Ele Posanga means "God's Word."
