Pura Bible (BEUWBT)
Overview
Genesis, Mark, and Acts in the Pura dialect of the Blagar language of Indonesia
The Blagar language is spoken across several islands of the Pantar–Alor Archipelago in the Nusa Tenggara region of eastern Indonesia, with the Pura dialect associated with the island of Pura. [1] Blagar belongs to the Timor–Alor–Pantar family of Papuan languages and is one of a cluster of non-Austronesian languages spoken alongside Austronesian neighbors in this linguistically diverse island chain. [2] This translation, completed in 2016 under the auspices of Wycliffe Bible Translators and Unit Bahasa dan Budaya (Language and Culture Unit), provides three books — Genesis, Mark, and Acts — making it the first substantial scripture resource for the Pura-dialect community. [3] The copyright is held by Unit Bahasa dan Budaya, reflecting the collaborative model between international translation organizations and local Indonesian partners. [3]
