Overview
Bagheli (also called Baghelkhandi) is a Central Indo-Aryan language of the Eastern Hindi subgroup, spoken primarily in the Baghelkhand plateau region of Madhya Pradesh, India, in districts including Rewa, Satna, Sidhi, Singrauli, Shahdol, and Umaria, with additional speakers in parts of Uttar Pradesh. [1] The language has been documented since at least the 13th century under the name Bagheli, and George Abraham Grierson classified it under Eastern Hindi in his Linguistic Survey of India. [2] Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. produced this 2015 scripture resource in the Devanagari script, making portions of the Bible available to a speaker community estimated at approximately 2.68 million people. [3] The translation is distributed digitally through Faith Comes by Hearing and YouVersion. [4]
