Binandere Mark, Luke, and Acts (BHGWBT)
Overview
The Binandere Scripture portions comprising the Gospels of Mark and Luke and the Acts of the Apostles were published in 2014 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc., with the vernacular title Yesu Keriso da Bino Dave ("The Good News of Jesus Christ"). [1] The Binandere people inhabit villages along the banks of the Eia, Gira, and Mamba Rivers in Oro Province (formerly Northern Province) on the northeastern coast of Papua New Guinea, with a speaker community estimated at 7,000 to 12,000 across several dialect groups. [2] The earliest Scripture work in Binandere was done by Rev. Copland King (1863--1918), an Anglican missionary who arrived in New Guinea in 1891 and became one of the few Europeans to master the Binandere language; King translated a prayer book, a catechism, portions of Genesis, and the Gospel of Luke into Binandere. [4] SIL International subsequently produced literacy studies and dialect surveys for the language. [3]
