Bibliya Mosantu Baloi — Baloi Scripture Portions (DR Congo)
Overview
Bibliya Mosantu Baloi ("the Holy Bible in Baloi") is the Gospel of Luke in the Baloi language of northwestern DRC, published by Beyond Translation under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 license and available via YouVersion/Bible.com (ID 4346; abbreviation: BIZ). This is the first scripture translation into Baloi, produced as part of Beyond Translation's DRC Church-Centric Bible Translation (CCBT) initiative in which local church communities are trained as translators and own the translated text. The community's full name for themselves is Baato Baloi ("the Baloi people").
Language and People
Baloi (ISO 639-3: biz; autonym: Baato Baloi) is a Bantu language: Niger-Congo → Atlantic-Congo → Benue-Congo → Bantoid → Narrow Bantu → Zone C (Bangi-Ntomba/Mongo area). It belongs to the broad cluster of Zone C Bantu languages spoken in the Congo River basin of Équateur and surrounding provinces.
The Baloi community inhabits the northwestern DRC, in the broad Congo River basin area. Beyond Translation's DRC program reached 15 language communities across the Congo basin and Sud-Ubangi regions, providing scripture to a combined 160,000+ speakers.
