Bakwé Bible (BJWWBT)

Overview

The Bakwé Bible (2017) is a New Testament translation into the Bakwé language, spoken by approximately 10,300 people in southwest Cote d'Ivoire. [1] The translation was produced under Wycliffe Bible Translators through a cooperative agreement with Christ Church of Moscow, Idaho. [1] [2] The project was led by Csaba Leidenfrost and his family, who worked on translating Scripture and training the Bakwé people in literacy. [2] Although French is the national language of Cote d'Ivoire, most Bakwé speakers primarily use their native language at home and lack sufficient French proficiency to benefit from French Bible translations, making a vernacular translation essential for the community. [2] The translation is available digitally with audio through a mobile app that also offers parallel viewing alongside French and English texts. [3]
