Kuwaa 1988 Edition (BLHLBT)

Overview

The Kuwaa New Testament was published in 1988 by Lutheran Bible Translators, with Bible portions available from 1982. [1] In the 1970s, Lutheran Bible Translators assigned two couples to the Kuwaa region of Liberia to develop a written form of the language, teach literacy, and translate the Bible. [2] Rev. Dr. Richard Thompson and his wife Doris arrived in 1970 and served for ten years, working on linguistics, language development, Bible translation, literacy, and evangelism. [2] Thompson completed a master's degree in linguistics from San Jose State University in 1976-77 to support the translation work. [2] Ed and Diane Stelling also served with Lutheran Bible Translators among the Kuwaa, with Ed as a literacy worker and Diane as a linguist and nurse. [2] The translation work was interrupted in 1980 by a military coup in Liberia. [2] The Kuwaa people live in Gbarpolu and Lofa counties in northwestern Liberia. [1]
