Mag-Indi Ayta New Testament (BLXWBT)
Overview
The Ayta Mag-Indi are an indigenous Ayta people who live around the mountains of Porac and Floridablanca in Pampanga province, on the northern side of Manila Bay in the island of Luzon, Philippines, with a speaker population of approximately 5,000. [1] Their language, also called Mag-Indi, belongs to the Sambalic subgroup of Austronesian Philippine languages and is closely related to other Ayta languages of Zambales and Pampanga. [2] Wycliffe Bible Translators missionaries Roger and Vangie Stone devoted approximately a decade to translating the New Testament for the Ayta Mag-Indi community, with the translation published in 2020. [3] The translation project also employed innovative SIL software tools, including FLExTrans (a rule-based machine-assisted translation system integrated with Fieldworks Language Explorer), to accelerate draft production; Roger Stone subsequently used this technology to translate Old Testament books including Ruth and Jonah. [4] The vernacular title "Bayun Tipan sa Aytan Mag-Indi" (New Covenant for the Ayta Mag-Indi) is distributed through YouVersion, the Digital Bible Library, and eBible.org. [5]
