Buamu New Testament (BOXWYI)

Overview

The Buamu New Testament (Dónbeeni páanîi fĩnle vũahũ) was published in 2012 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc., in the Buamu language of Burkina Faso. [2] Buamu (also spelled Bwamu) is a Central Gur language of the Niger-Congo family spoken by the Bwa (Bwaba) people in south-western Burkina Faso, with an estimated 268,000 speakers. [2] Translation work was coordinated through Wycliffe and its partner organisation ANTBA (Association Nationale pour la Traduction de la Bible et l'Alphabétisation), which was officially recognized by the government in 1992 and became a Wycliffe International affiliate in 1996. [3] A separate translation into the Buamu Laa dialect was subsequently undertaken, beginning in 2007 with a core team of one project leader and two full-time translators supported by approximately twenty revisers and proofreaders; the Buamu Laa New Testament was dedicated in Bagassi on 14 December 2024, drawing more than 2,000 attendees.
