Audio Gospel of Luke in the Tchumbuli language (locally called "Basa" — not to be confused with the Basa languages of Nigeria or Cameroon). Produced by Wycliffe Benin. Tchumbuli (ISO bqa) is a Northern Guang language closely related to Chumburung in Ghana, spoken by approximately 5,300 people in the villages of Okounfo, Edaningbe, and Gbede in Benin's Collines Department. The language is classified as endangered by SIL — a 2017 sociolinguistic survey (Faton & Tupper) found significant language shift, with Cabe or Maxi replacing Tchumbuli in most domains and only speakers over 60 regularly using it among peers. Despite this, the community expresses strong ethnic identity and desire to slow language loss. Wycliffe Benin was founded in 2003 and began its first formal Bible translation project in 2012. No complete New Testament or text Bible exists for Tchumbuli as of 2026.
