The population of the Akoose is 100,000 and they live in the regions of the South West Province of Kupe-Muanenguba , Bangem and Tombel Divisions and the subdivisions of Littoral Province, Moungo Division, Manjo Subdivisions of Cameroon. Alternate names are Akosi, Bakossi, Bekoose, Koose, Kosi, Nkoosi, Nkosi. Dialects are Northern Bakossi, Western Bakossi, Southern Bakossi, Mwambong, Ninong, Elung (Elong, Along, Nlong), Mwamenam (Mouamenam). The language Classification is Niger-Congo, Atlantic-Congo, Volta-Congo, Benue-Congo, Bantoid, Southern, Narrow Bantu, Northwest, Lundu-Balong, Ngoe. Language development consists of a Dictionary and Bible portions. The Writing system is in the Latin script.
