Ntcham 2008 Edition (BUDIBS)

Overview

The Ntcham 2008 Edition presents New Testament Scripture in the Ntcham (Bassar) language of Togo, published under the copyright of Alliance Biblique du Togo (Bible Society of Togo). [1] Ntcham, also known as Bassar, Ncam, or Tobote, belongs to the Northern Gur branch of the Niger-Congo family and is spoken by approximately 329,000-390,000 people, primarily in the Bassar area of the Kara Region of northwestern Togo and adjacent areas of northeastern Ghana. [2] [3] The New Testament translation was led by Wycliffe UK worker Sheila Crunden, who first arrived in Togo in 1969 and was assigned to work with the Bassar people. She and her co-worker collaborated with Bassar Christians to complete the New Testament, which was published in 1991. [4] Work on the Old Testament continued over the following decades, and the complete Ncam Bible was dedicated on January 17, 2015 at the municipal stadium in Bassar, with both Catholic and Protestant editions produced. [4] [5] The New Testament title in Ntcham is Dipoompondi Takaldau Ncam (Baasaar). [1]
