Burarra New Testament (BVRWBT)

Overview

The Burarra New Testament, titled Nyanyapa Arrku Gun-nika Gun-molamola Janguny ("Our Father's Good Story"), is a translation for the Burarra people of north-central Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory of Australia, centered on the Blyth and Cadell River regions and the town of Maningrida, approximately 400 km east of Darwin. [1] Burarra belongs to the Burarran branch of the Maningrida language family and has three recognized dialects: Gun-nartpa, Gun-narta, and Gun-narda; Glasgow (1981) contributed foundational phonological documentation through SIL–AAB work papers. [2] Wycliffe Bible Translators David and Kathy Glasgow spent 29 years learning the language and translating the scriptures alongside a team of Burarra translators; early Old Testament story portions were translated by the Bible Society and Wycliffe between 1980 and 1982. [1] The New Testament was first completed in 1991 and was revised and reprinted in the current 2008 edition; audio recordings of the full New Testament have since been completed. [1]
