South Western Yepocapa and Acatenango Kaqchikel New Testament (CAKSWT)
Overview
The South Western Yepocapa and Acatenango Kaqchikel New Testament (Re C'ac'a Testamento pa Kach'abal), published by Wycliffe Bible Translators in 2012, is a translation of the New Testament for the Kaqchikel speech community of the Yepocapa and Acatenango municipalities in the Chimaltenango department of Guatemala. Global Recordings Network documents this as a distinct dialect used in those communities. [1] Kaqchikel is a Mayan language of the Quichean-Mamean branch with approximately 1,070,000 speakers across central Guatemala. [2] This edition is part of Wycliffe's sustained effort to produce dialect-specific translations for the Kaqchikel-speaking highland region. The history of Kaqchikel Bible translation reaches back to Cameron Townsend's foundational 1931 translation, which inspired the founding of both Wycliffe Bible Translators and SIL International. [3]
