Kaqchikel New Testament (CAKWBTCG)

Overview

The Kaqchikel New Testament (2012) is a translation of the New Testament into Central Kaqchikel, published by the Bible Society of Guatemala with copyright held by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. [1] Titled "Ri C'ac'a Trato ri Xuben ri Dios Quiq'uin ri Vinek," it serves the Central Kaqchikel speech community, the largest dialect group of the Kaqchikel language in Guatemala. [2] Kaqchikel holds a notable place in the history of Bible translation: William Cameron Townsend arrived in Guatemala in 1917 to sell Spanish Bibles, but upon discovering that many indigenous people did not understand Spanish, he learned Kaqchikel and published the first Kaqchikel New Testament in 1931 — an experience that led him to found Wycliffe Bible Translators. [3] This 2012 edition represents continued work by Wycliffe and partner organizations to provide updated Scripture in the various Kaqchikel dialects.
