Chachi Bible (CBITBL)

Overview

This volume contains the New Testament along with Genesis and Exodus in Cha'palaa, the language of the Chachi people (also known historically as Cayapa) of Ecuador's Esmeraldas Province. Published in 2008 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, it is titled "Diosa' kiika" ("God's book"). [1] Bible portions in Chachi were first produced as early as 1964, with the New Testament completed between 2008 and 2015. [2] The Chachi are an indigenous people whose settlements are concentrated along the Cayapas River and its tributaries, including the Canande, Cojimies, Onzole, and Sucio rivers in Ecuador's northwestern coastal jungle. [2]

Cha'palaa (ISO 639-3: cbi), also called Chachi or Cayapa, is spoken by approximately 11,000 people in Esmeraldas Province, Ecuador. [2] [Glottolog: chac1249]
