Overview

The Chavacano New Testament (El Nuevo Testamento) was published in 1981 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. [1] Chavacano (also spelled Chabacano) is a Spanish-based creole language of the Philippines, with origins tracing to the construction of the San José Fortress in Zamboanga in 1635, when Spanish colonial administrators brought together laborers from disparate Philippine language groups who developed a common tongue based on Spanish vocabulary. [2] Chavacano is spoken primarily in Zamboanga City on the southern island of Mindanao, with other varieties in Cavite City and Ternate on Luzon. [2] The 1981 New Testament is distributed in multiple digital formats through eBible.org, YouVersion, and the Digital Bible Library. [3]
