Cashibo-Cacataibo New Testament (CBRWBT)
Overview
The Cashibo-Cacataibo New Testament, titled Nukën 'Ibu Diosan ain unikama 'inan ain bana, was published in 2011 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc., representing the culmination of decades of linguistic work that began when SIL International first engaged the community in 1946. [1] Cashibo-Cacataibo (also called Kakataibo or Kashibo) is a Western Panoan language spoken along the Aguaytía, San Alejandro, and Súngaro rivers in the Ucayali and Huánuco regions of central Peru; its speakers comprise three subgroups — Kashiñon (Kashibo), Kakataibo, and Ruño. [2] The language was extensively documented by SIL linguist Olive A. Shell, whose vocabulary and phonological studies from the 1960s through the 1980s laid the scholarly groundwork for translation. [3] Earlier Bible portions were distributed between 1964 and 1975 before the complete New Testament was finalized. [1]
