Candoshi-Shapra Bible (CBUWBT)
Overview
The Candoshi-Shapra Bible, titled Apanlli Kuku, was published in 2010 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. Candoshi-Shapra (also called Kandozi-Chapra or Murato) is a language isolate spoken along the Chapuli, Huitoyacu, Pastaza, and Morona river valleys in the Loreto region of northern Peru; it has two dialects, Kandozi and Shapra (Chapara). [1] SIL missionaries Lorrie Anderson and Doris Cox began living among the Shapra people in the late 1940s, teaching them to read and translating Scripture into the Shapra language. Anderson, who arrived in Peru in 1948, served among the Candoshi for 35 years. [2] Bible portions were first distributed between 1958 and 1977. [3] The translation was completed and published as a full Bible in 2010. [4]
