New Testament in Chiru (CDFBIV)
Overview
The New Testament in Chiru was published by Bibles International in 2009. The Chiru are a small tribal people living in approximately 12 villages in the Kangpokpi, Noney, and Churachandpur districts of Manipur, with one additional village in Cachar District of Assam in northeast India. [1] With only about 7,000 speakers, the Chiru language is considered endangered, and the Chiru Primer and this New Testament are among the few books published in the language. [2] Most Chiru people are Christian, though many also practice elements of traditional religion. [1] Bibles International is the Bible translation and publishing department of Baptist Mid-Missions.
