Kagayanen New Testament (CGCTBL)
Overview
The Kagayanen New Testament (Pulong ta Dyos: Genesis daw bag-o na kasugtanan) was published in 2007 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. and dedicated on April 19, 2008 in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan. [1] The translation project was initiated in 1976 by Scott and Louise MacGregor and later carried forward by Carol Pebley and Jacqueline Huggins, both SIL linguist-translators who spent over twenty years on the project; the dedication marked the first New Testament translation completed with the assistance of an African American woman in Wycliffe's history. [1] Carol Pebley, who earned a master's degree in linguistics from the University of Texas at Arlington despite being legally blind, lived for four years in Cagayancillo — the island homeland of the Kagayanen people — and contributed nearly forty years of linguistic research to the language. [2] Kagayanen is an outlier Manobo language, the only member of that subgroup not spoken on Mindanao, and shows evidence of influence from neighboring Bisayan languages. [3] The volume also includes the book of Genesis, and ongoing Old Testament translation work was continuing under the stewardship of Wycliffe Philippines. [4]
