Overview

The Cabécar New Testament was published in 2014 as a corrected edition replacing an earlier 1993 translation. [1] American missionaries Aziel and Marian Jones arrived among the Cabécar people in the Talamancan mountains of Costa Rica in 1952 and began translating the New Testament. [1] The first NT was dedicated in 1993 at Nari Nak village, attended by over 500 Cabécar people. [1] However, a critical error was later discovered: the word "Sibo" had been used for "God," but Sibo is actually the name of a specific traditional deity, causing confusion among believers. [1] Timothy Jones, son of Aziel and Marian, took over the project after his parents retired in 1997 and led the effort to produce a corrected translation, which was delivered in February 2014. [1]
