Lealao Chinantec New Testament (CLETBL)

Overview

New Testament in Chinantec, Lealao (MX:cle:Chinantec, Lealao), including the Psalms, published in 2008 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. Lealao Chinantec — spoken primarily in the town of San Juan Lealao and the surrounding villages of Tres Arroyos and Hondura in the Choapan district of Oaxaca, Mexico — is one of approximately fourteen mutually unintelligible Chinantecan language varieties that form a branch of the Oto-Manguean family. [1][2] Like all Chinantec languages, it is a tonal language; speakers refer to the language as fáh⁴jmii⁴², roughly meaning "plain speech." SIL linguist Jaime Rupp and Nadine de Rupp produced a bilingual dictionary of San Juan Lealao Chinantec alongside the translation work. [3] Audio recordings for the New Testament were produced in 2007, a year before the text was published. [4] This edition represents the first complete New Testament in the Lealao variety.
