Hakha Common Language Bible (CNHBSM)

Overview

The Hakha Common Language Bible (Baibal Thiang) is a full Bible translation in the Hakha Chin language, published in 2005 by the Bible Society of Myanmar. [1] Hakha Chin serves as the lingua franca of Chin State in northwestern Myanmar, and the Hakha dialect holds a prominent position among the many Chin languages due to Hakha's status as the capital of Chin State. [2] The Bible Society of Myanmar produced this common-language translation to serve the broader Hakha-speaking Christian community. A separate translation effort by Bibles International, adopted in 2002 with Rev. Paul Cung Bil Thawng as the first translator, later produced a distinct Hakha Chin New Testament dedicated in November 2014 at Grace Baptist Church in Hakha Town, with Old Testament work adopted in 2016. [3] The Chin people of Myanmar are predominantly Christian, with Christianity having spread throughout the Chin Hills beginning in the late 19th century through the work of American Baptist missionaries.
