Ucayali-yurúa Ashéninka New Testament (CPBWBT)
Overview
The Ucayali-Yurúa Ashéninka New Testament, titled Kameethari Ñaantsi: ikenkitha-takoitziri awinkatharite Jesucristo, was published in 2000 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. [1] The Ucayali-Yurúa variety of Ashéninka is one of five related Ashéninka dialects in the Arawakan (Campa) language family; its speakers live in the central Peruvian Amazon from the Ucayali River to the Yurúa River along the border with Brazil, in the Ucayali and Huánuco departments. [2] SIL Peru, which has worked with Ashéninka-speaking communities since the 1940s, coordinated native translator teams advised by ILV (Instituto Lingüístico de Verano) linguists for the translation work across the Ashéninka dialect group. [3] The community numbers approximately 7,000–10,000 speakers and has been classified by Joshua Project as unreached, with fewer than 2% evangelical Christians. [2]
