South Ucayali Ashéninka Bible (CPYWBT)

Overview

The South Ucayali Ashéninka Bible, titled Las Escrituras en Ashéninka Ucayali del Sur del Perú, was published in 2008 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. and includes the New Testament along with substantial Old Testament portions. [1] South Ucayali Ashéninka (ISO 639-3: cpy) is one of the five varieties of Ashéninka, a Campa-branch Arawakan language; its speakers, numbering approximately 13,000–18,000, live along the upper Ucayali River and its tributaries in the Atalaya area of the Ucayali region. [2] Bible portions were available from as early as 1976 before the full Scripture was completed in 2008. [2] SIL Peru coordinated native translator teams — advised by ILV (Instituto Lingüístico de Verano) linguists — across the five Ashéninka dialect areas. [3]
