Ember-Catio Bible (CTOWBT)

Overview

The Ember-Catio Bible contains scripture in Emberá-Catío (also known as Katío, Eyabida, or Embena), a Chocoan language spoken by approximately 42,000 people primarily along the Upper Sinú, San Jorge, San Pedro, and Murrí Rivers of northwestern Colombia [1][2]. The Emberá-Catío people are part of the broader Emberá indigenous group, and their language belongs to the northern branch of the Chocoan language family [3]. Scripture portions in Emberá-Catío have been produced from as early as 1975, with additional portions completed through 2014 [1]. This translation was published by Wycliffe Bible Translators in 2012 and is also available as a mobile app titled "Ẽ́bẽra Katío Bible" [4]. Literacy among Emberá-Catío speakers has historically been very low, estimated at around 1%, making audio and digital distribution formats particularly important for scripture access [2].
