Cubeo New Testament (CUBWBT)
Overview
New Testament in Cubeo (CO:cub:Cubeo)
The Cubeo New Testament, titled "Majepacʉ jʉ̃menijicʉi yávaiye mamaene coyʉitucubo" in the vernacular, is a translation of the New Testament into Cubeo, a Tucanoan language spoken by approximately 6,300 people along the Vaupés, Cuduyarí, and Querarí Rivers in the northwestern Amazon Basin of Colombia [1][2]. The Cubeo people have maintained their language and culture largely intact despite contact with outsiders since the sixteenth century [1]. The translation was completed and copyrighted by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. in 2009 [3]. SIL linguist Nancy Morse conducted extensive linguistic analysis and literacy and translation work with the Cubeo people of southeastern Colombia, and co-authored a comprehensive Cubeo grammar with Michael B. Maxwell, published by SIL International in 1999 [4]. The translation is distributed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivatives 4.0 license [3].
