San Blas Kuna Bible (CUKNVS)

Overview

The complete Bible in the San Blas Kuna (Guna) language of Panama, titled "Bab-Dummad-Garda-Islidikid," published in 2014 by the Bible Society of Panama and Wycliffe Bible Translators. [1] This was the 531st complete Bible translation in the world. [2] The translation effort began in 1982 when Keith Forster (1939–2018), a South African linguist, and his Canadian wife Wilma began working with the Kuna people through Wycliffe Bible Translators. [1] [3] The New Testament was completed and published in 1995 in collaboration with pastor Lino Smith. [3] Old Testament translation began in 1999, carried out by a team of five Kuna men: Teobaldo Martinez, Jaime Rios, Hernan Smith, Lino Smith, and Amalio Vergara. [1] The complete Bible was dedicated in late September 2014 at three ceremonies — two on the San Blas Islands and one in Panama City — attended by more than 3,000 people. [2] The Guna (formerly spelled Kuna) people inhabit the Guna Yala archipelago of 365 islands along Panama's Caribbean coast, with the territory recognized as a semi-autonomous indigenous comarca following the Guna Revolution of 1925.
