San Blas Kuna New Testament 2009 (CUKWB9)
Overview
New Testament in Kuna, San Blas (PM:cuk:Kuna, San Blas)
The San Blas Kuna New Testament, titled "Bab dummad Jesucristoba igar mesisad garda" in the vernacular, is spoken by approximately 57,100 people on the San Blas (Guna Yala) islands and coastal areas of Panama [1]. Translation work on the San Blas Kuna New Testament began in early 1980, when Wycliffe Bible Translator Keith Forster partnered with San Blas Kuna pastor Lino Smith, and the New Testament was published in 1995 [2][3]. This 2009 edition represents a subsequent revision copyrighted by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. [4]. Forster had previously joined Wycliffe and moved to the Border Kuna village of Paya in Panama in September 1971, where he completed the Border Kuna New Testament in 1993 with co-translator Ricardo Bastidas [2]. Following the San Blas Kuna New Testament, Old Testament translation began in 1999 with a team of five men -- Teobaldo Martinez, Jaime Rios, Hernan Smith, Lino Smith, and Amalio Vergara -- culminating in the dedication of the complete San Blas Kuna Bible in September 2014, the 531st complete Bible in the world [2][3][5].
