Teutila New Testament (CUTWBT)

Overview

The Teutila Cuicatec New Testament is a translation of the New Testament into the Teutila dialect of the Cuicatec language, first published in 1972 by Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc. [1]. Cuicatec is an Oto-Manguean language belonging to the Mixtecan branch, spoken by the Cuicatec people of Oaxaca, Mexico, whose name derives from the Nahuatl word for "place of song" [2]. The Teutila variety is spoken in and around the town of San Pedro Teutila in the Cuicatlan District of Oaxaca, and is classified as endangered, with the language used by all adults in the ethnic community but not by all younger speakers [3]. The original 1972 New Testament was published through the Liga Biblica (LLB/LBMH), with earlier Bible portions having been translated between 1962 and 1965 [4][5].
