Matthew and Luke in Dargwa (Dargin) (DARIBT)

Overview

The Gospels of Matthew and Luke in Dargwa (Dargin) were published by the Institute for Bible Translation (IBT) as part of an ongoing Dargwa translation project based in Dagestan. The Gospel of Matthew was published in 2013 with an accompanying audio CD, the first multimedia Scripture publication among IBT's Dagestani projects. [1] The translation team included Hizri Yusupov, a senior researcher at the Dagestani Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and M. E. Alekseyev, Deputy Director of the Institute of Linguistics at the Russian Academy of Sciences. [1] IBT's Dargwa project has since expanded considerably, with the Four Gospels, Acts, and Revelation published in 2023. [2] The Dargwa are the second-largest ethnic group in the Republic of Dagestan, comprising about 16.5% of the republic's population.
