Diodio (also known as Goodenough West, Molata, Giwau, or Miyalabi, ISO 639-3: ddi) is an Austronesian language spoken by approximately 4,400 people on the western side of Goodenough Island in Milne Bay Province, Papua New Guinea. Goodenough Island is one of the D'Entrecasteaux Islands, an archipelago off the southeastern tip of PNG known for its rugged terrain and linguistically diverse communities. The Diodio language has several dialects including Molata (the most widely spoken), Awale, Iauiaula, and Miufau. Wycliffe Bible Translators undertook translation work with the Diodio community, producing scripture portions including the Gospel of Mark in audio form,. A translation survey team's engagement with the community found strong local interest in having the Bible in their own language. The Diodio people are classified as significantly reached with Christianity — Milne Bay Province has had strong Christian mission presence for over a century — but access to Scripture in the mother tongue remains limited. The first printed book in Molata, a collection of community stories, was produced by a committee supporting the translation project, demonstrating growing local literacy capacity alongside the audio scripture work.
