German Bible (DEUAVG)

Overview

The Allioli Vulgata is a German Bible translation by Joseph Franz von Allioli (1793-1873), a Roman Catholic theologian and orientalist. First published in 1830-1835 in six volumes at Landshut, Bavaria, it was the first German Bible to receive the papal imprimatur (11 May 1830). [1] The translation is based on the Latin Vulgate with reference to the original Hebrew and Greek texts. It was later revised by Augustin Arndt, S.J., under Pope Pius X, and served as the standard Catholic German Bible until eclipsed by modern translations. [2]
