Wangurri Gospel of Mark (DHGWBTW)

Overview

The Wangurri Gospel of Mark was completed in 2014 and formally dedicated on November 8, 2015 [1]. Wangurri is one of the varieties of Dhangu-Djangu, a Yolngu language spoken in North East Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory of Australia [1][2]. The copyright for the Wangurri text is held by the Northern Regional Council of Congress, Northern Synod, the Uniting Church in Australia, and the translation was produced in cooperation with Wycliffe Bible Translators [1][3]. The translation project was supported through scripture translation workshops coordinated by Coordinate (formerly known as CSIS -- Coordinating Support for Indigenous Scriptures), a project of the Uniting Church in Australia Northern Synod [3]. The translation is available in print through AuSIL (Australian Society for Indigenous Languages) and Bible Society, as well as in digital and audio formats [1]. Work is ongoing in other New Testament books beyond Mark [1].
